Angling

The forgotten bloodsport

What is “angling” and how can we stop it?

Angling is a form of fishing which involves the use of a hook attached to a fishing line. A fish will impale themselves on the hook, be dragged out of the water where they will suffocate or be immediately murdered by brute force or by being stabbed.

Most humans who partake in this activity do so for "leisure", which results in the activity being labelled a bloodsport.

A few different methods are useful to prevent this activity. One of the best has got to be the use of a canoe or rowing boat to make the anglers pull their lines in and disturb the fishes. They may not even realize you're sabbing them unless you've got a purple mohican.

The fishes can be disturbed by throwing medium-sized stones in the water - not huge rocks as they may stun the fishes through vibrations in the water.

Standing behind anglers, having a noisy chat about how many they've caught, can cause a shadow, disturbing the fishes.
