Badger Baiting
Badger baiting is when badgers are dug out of their setts and captured to be used to fight with dogs; this is an illegal activity in Ireland under the Wildlife Acts 1976 to 2012. Badgers are also protected under the Bern Convention (Appendix III) and many successful convictions have been achieved over the years against those involved in this activity.
Any interference with a badger or their home (sett) is illegal without an official government contracted license (issued for "culling", which means killing).
Although it is illegal, it is known to be widespread throughout Ireland, especially in lamping/terrier men circles. Those involved have little to no respect for nature in Ireland. It will attract very aggressive people, and we would advise serious caution if engaging with them.
