Welcome!

Hi! We want to make sure that before you read the following you know that the folks involved in hunt sabotage are some of the most selfless, kindest and strongest people you will ever meet. Sabs will always have your back and support you through the worst, and we want you to feel welcome among us. We are doing important and serious work together, but it can also be fun and incredibly rewarding; seeing someone get to safety because of your actions can leave you speechless and beyond happy for them. The following is written in a tone that is serious because it needs to be because we are giving you informed consent, it is not aimed to scare you but inform you. If you want to learn more about us please read our about page.

Please read the information here before filling out the form for informed consent:

While we welcome any new sab, they must know the risks involved and what we stand for. Informed consent (and Consent Culture in general) is critical in all aspects of life, and we want to emphasise that here as sabbing is something where your and others’ autonomy is at risk.

Sabs have been killed in the UK, assaulted, seriously injured, have had their cars destroyed, etc. What we do is legal, however, there is a small risk of arrest, an even smaller risk of court proceedings, a much smaller risk of imprisonment and an extremely small, but not impossible, risk of death. Sabbing is physically taxing, stressful, scary, intimidating, life-threatening. The skills involved in sabbing includes physical fitness, navigation, data collection (in the field or at home) and driving. There can be a lot of running involved, and it's incredibly quick-paced; calm communication is vital. There are lots of tactics involved, and lots of reading and learning is necessary to sab effectively. If you can start a jogging practice, please do.

As with always giving informed consent, we have some cultures and frameworks we utilise, these frameworks help guide what we do during sabbing. We need to have a Security Culture for the sake of everyone's safety; an Accountability Culture to be able to admit wrong, accept feedback and hold others to account; we need a strong Consent Culture which informs people about situations that could be a risk for, or affect, their autonomy, but also asking for consent when an action (you make) involves someone else's body i.e. taking a photo of their body, touching their body, etc. Consensus Decision Making is to help make more significant decisions collectively and non-hierarchically.

Anti-Oppression:

Marginalised sabs must feel safe within their team. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination or oppression within our organisation. We take complaints very seriously and are dealt with quickly and fairly. Sexism, speciesism (we only allow vegan food in the vehicle, out of respect to nonhuman animals and other sabs), transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, ageism, classism, sizeism (fat-phobia), anti-semitism, islamophobia, fascism, sexual or physical harassment and all forms of discrimination and oppression are not welcome in within HSI, local sab groups, our comment sections, or anywhere. We are here to dismantle oppressive structures, not perpetuate them. We are non-hierarchical and all input is heard and all voices are given space. We do not ever violate the consent of anyone, and we use people’s correct pronouns and aliases.

Hunt Sabotage is anti-speciesist action and when we sabotage hunts we sabotage speciesism. Speciesism is oppression of nonhuman animals, seeing them as inferior to humans. Anti-speciesists recognise foxes, dogs, horses and all nonhuman animals as equal to them and fight in solidarity with them for their liberation.

These are our core values:

  1. Anti-speciesism and anti-oppression

  2. Consent and bodily autonomy

  3. Accountability

  4. Non-hierarchy

  5. Voluntary
