Fox hunting in Ireland on the ropes

The past 24 months have been very uncertain and challenging for Irish society. Fox hunting with hounds has not been untouched from this, seeing their 2019/2020 season finish early. They then proceeded to hunt for about three weeks in Winter 2020, followed by another lockdown which cut short the 2020/2021 season.

Now we are into the 2021/2022 season, yet in many parts of the country there is no sign of them. Our sabs have been patrolling different areas with little to no activity. Where are they?

Insurance broker Liberty Mutual (US based) whom were the only insurer providing them with Public Liability Insurance pulled out of the Irish market during the summer. The reason hunters need this insurance and will not hunt without it is because of the amount of claims their supporters make. Hunting is a high risk activity for everyone involved (foxes, hounds and horses are killed but humans have also been injured/died).

Currently Balbriggan based Goggin Insurance are attempting to resolve the situation (specifically John D Lyon’s who works for them and participates in murdering wildlife with Fingal Harriers and Louth Hunt).

Contact Goggin insurance and see why they deem it acceptable to attempt to insure this bloodsport. We are calling on all of our supporters to actively boycott this business.

The next few weeks will be interesting. There is likely to be another introduction of restrictions due to the covid19 wave. This will mark two winter periods where hunts may once again need to be cancelled at their busiest time of year.

A major revenue spinner for these bloodsport enthusiasts is a cap payment from their field, something they will struggle to get again this season.

If they do go ahead, we will be waiting for them. If you have any information about this topic send it on in confidence to info@huntsabsireland.com
