Sabs arrested for trespass at Scarteen Hunt

Bruff Garda Station

Hit Report, Scarteen “black and tans”, Caherline, County Limerick 4th January 2020.

We were joined this weekend by comrades from both Hunt Saboteurs Sweden and Mendip Hunt Sabs which gave us an added boost going back to a hunt who last time we visited one of their supporters crashed into us. We had 20+ saboteurs with us today.

After receiving a tip off from concerned locals, we decided to pay the scarteen another visit. They had only posted a video a couple of days prior of their hounds quite obviously hunting foxes so it was perfect timing.

We released our first team of sabs in the south of the area by their horse boxes and proceeded to get our second team.

Upon arriving back at the meet we were delayed due to an intel mixup. However after a bit of searching (the Black and Tans cover a lot of ground, maybe they are running from us) we finally caught up to them.

We were welcomed in the area by the supporters with “fuck offs” etc and the usual driving on the wrong side of the road trying to block us in. After a couple minutes of this we let our sabs off and they proceeded to find the huntsman and his hounds.

Our first team found the hounds and hunt, only to be met with aggression from a hunt follower we have now nicknamed “the peeper”. As our landy and second vehicle passed through the hunting area to collect team 2, the peeper decided it would be a smart idea to blockade the road whilst taking pictures of us. For more on this check our last post as he also hit or vehicles, was very handys with our sabs and tried to steal a sabs mobility aid.

Our other team were on the hunt, the whipper in said he was going to “break our necks”. Hounds were in cry briefly but we were close enough to them, eventually huntsman gathered the hound's so they lost the scent. Plenty of riders/huntsmen riding horses at us also . They left the field and were following the landowners request the Gardai showed up. Upon arrival there was some confusion as to why the Gardaí were holding sabs on the land we were leaving, only to see two of our sabs arrested for a civil trespass, it was not aggravated trespass and these sabs had not received a warning to vacate the property. It was a completely unnecessary arrest used to slow us down.

This story of the arrest was picked up by a few mainstream media outlets including the Limerick Leader first and then the Irish Post.

We are not fazed with being arrested, we are challenging something that otherwise may have gone unchallenged. Unfortunately we had to leave the area to sort out our comrades. After a negotiation period we managed to get them out without any charges as we are talking about a civil offence.

In summary we never heard the hounds in cry unaccompanied by sabs, however we cannot be sure there were no kills due to us leaving early.

There will soon be resistance all over Ireland. We are getting dozens of reports of people leaving their homes telling these hunts they are not welcome. Thank you for all the well wishes, coins and solidarity. Together we will stop this.
