Hit Report: Grallagh Harriers, Woodlawn Coillte Woods, Woodlawn, County Galway 13/12/2020

After we received a tip off that the Grallagh Harriers were gathering at a public forest, we promptly headed out to give them a post lockdown welcome back to life as a regularly sabbed fox hunt.

We arrived before they had unboxed, using this time to pre-spray some of the woods. As huntsman David Burke turned the corner and got eyes on his welcoming party he looked like he had seen a ghost. We counted a field of 7 following him, Grallagh were hoping to break the pod of 15 rule but unfortunately they just aren't that popular!

After the field and terrier-men past us, we took off behind them. Unfortunately they managed to escape our foot team, David likely not fancying the challenge without his two whipper-ins present and such a small field.

After about 30 minutes our vehicle sabs noticed that their houndsvan had disappeared, along with most of the field. This meant they either packed up immediately after we engaged them or they had galloped a serious distance away then required a pickup further afield.

Over the course of the next hour we asked a number of dog walkers/locals if they had seen them, to no avail. The hounds did not speak at all and the horn was not heard. A strange day, potentially a kill free day if they packed. We were ready to act if they attempted to kill any foxes or other animals in that massive woodland.

We covered a lot of road yesterday, if you could spare the price of a coffee to help us keep going it would go a long way: https://ko-fi.com/connachthuntsabs
